Estes Releases 2024 Sustainability Report

Richmond, VA—Estes, the largest privately owned freight carrier in North America, has released its 2024 Sustainability Report, “A Year of Progress – Building a Culture of Sustainability and Partnership.”

The report outlines Estes’ long-term commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 and highlights its recent environmental sustainability milestones, including:

  • Establishing a Carbon Baseline: Estes calculated its first-ever carbon footprint for Scopes 1 and 2 (direct and indirect emissions from its operations) through use of Watershed’s enterprise climate platform for footprint calculation
  • Improving Fuel Efficiency: Over the past six years, the company has achieved a 6.5% improvement in miles per gallon through a combination of fleet upgrades, aerodynamic enhancements, low-emission fuels, and its Driver Efficiency Score program
  • Allocated Emissions Reporting: In collaboration with SMC³ and other LTL carriers, Estes helped launch the first phase of a standardized, allocated emissions calculator in January 2025

“Sustainability drives our progress and shapes so many aspects of our operations,” said Webb Estes, president and COO. “In the past year alone, we’ve leveraged new technologies to help us lower our emissions as we continue to expand our network, recognized 2,800 drivers through our Million Mile Driver Program, and steadily improved our fleet’s average miles per gallon. These efforts not only strengthen our business but also create a positive impact for our customers and communities.”
